This year brought unforgettable celebrations, breathtaking nature, and deep reflection—from Día de Muertos in Mexico and a baby sea turtle release to hiking storybook trails in Portugal and settling into life in Lake Chapala. A year of joy, loss, connection, and choosing home.
Life in Lake Chapala never feels quiet—in the best possible way. Over the past month, we’ve been swept up in parades, festivals, animals everywhere, and small daily moments that continue to confirm we chose the right place to land. From carnival rides and colorful celebrations to hummingbirds in our garden and cows on hiking trails, this stretch of time has been full of joy, color, and constant surprises.
My 50th birthday week was unforgettable—celebrating with friends in Guadalajara, enjoying Dia de Muertos sights, amazing food, art exhibitions, a seafood dinner, DJ dance party, and a relaxing spa day. Pure joy!
The Dia de Muertos celebrations continued in Chapala, Ajijic, and San Antonio with ballet folklorico, street of altars, sunset views, and beautiful tributes to the community’s ancestors. A vibrant experience all around!
We welcomed Joe’s brother, Jeff, to Ajijic and had a blast showing him around—boat tours, local food, birthday celebrations, and the No Kings Parade in the plaza. A fun mix of culture, food, and local traditions!
Settling into San Antonio, Lake Chapala, we’re discovering the rhythm of local life—art markets, handmade furniture, and vibrant festivals like the Fiestas de San Francisco. From fireworks and mariachi to authentic community connections, every day brings new experiences that make this place truly feel like home.
Life in San Antonio Tlayacapan is full of color, music, and connection. From volunteering at the local cat shelter to lively plaza celebrations, mariachi-filled parades, and unforgettable Fiestas Patrias, every day brings joy, culture, and community spirit. Delicious food and spontaneous dancing make it feel like home in the heart of Jalisco.
Our first month in San Antonio Tlayacapan has been full of new routines, lakeside sunsets, and vibrant local life. From strolling the malecón and discovering live music to joining birthday parties and festivals, every day offers connection, culture, and the warmth of a welcoming community.
